Anxiety Symptoms

We all experience anxiety at different points in our life. When we do, we might experience a fast beating heart, sweaty palms, clenched teeth, upset stomach, or muscle tension in our back or neck. We may have intrusive thoughts, we might be worrying about what hasn’t happened yet, we might be thinking about things that we fear and are out of our control. Anxiety can happen before a big meeting, when meeting new people, when our kids are attempting a new activity or wanting to spend more time away from us.

Anxiety isn’t all bad. Anxiety can keep us safe, it can keep us on alert for survival, it can also help us plan and prepare. However, when those thoughts, emotions, and physical feelings start to derail us, keep us from doing things we enjoy, or give make us feel out of control then we need to work through, process, and find coping skills in order to keep us grounded and calm. Our bodies are extraordinary and will often follow our thoughts, so reframing, and acceptance tools will allow you manage anxiety and even feel calm and appreciative for the times that it does come into play. However, sometimes our bodies react without our thoughts. Sometimes our nervous system is triggered by something we aren’t even sure of in the moment. Therapy can help figure out what is happening and teach ways for your body to physically calm down and get out of fight or flight.
