What is Loss?
I think the first thing that comes to mind when we think about loss is death. I know that is the first thing I think of and it is a big one. Death is a major loss, it often goes hand in hand with grief, sadness, overwhelm, and distance from self. However, loss isn’t just about people or pets dying. Loss can also mean big life transitions. It can mean moving from one place to another, changing jobs, switching schools, changing cars, friendships or relationships ending. In all of these it is normal to experience sadness, hopelessness, despair, not feeling grounded, worried, fearful, etc.
Loss has already or is going to happen to each and every one of us, and it is likely we will all process those losses differently-that doesn’t make them wrong, weird, or unacceptable. Counseling can help you through your loss journey, and help you realize that loss is a natural part of life, and while it can feel painful and bring about anxiety, you can move through it with self compassion. We are here to help.
